Celebrating the Wolf Moon
Ah, the New Year. A time for introspection and change (if you feel moved to!). The Wolf Moon was just mere days ago, and there are so many exciting things happening at Flying Fibers that feel right to celebrate with this New Year's moon.
Naturally, the wolf moon signifies growth and manifestation, and historically lit the dark January evenings - think of it like old school holiday twinkle lights. So what is Flying Fibers manifesting for 2025? Community! Since our move to our permanent location in 2022, we have missed that deep sense of community that we had, and while we SO love our farm craft night folx and our Craft Night at Kettleworks community group, we want it to feel comfortable for everyone, year round.
Behold, our next expansion. Last year, it was the outdoor patio that easily led to our back picnic space. This year, it is an indoor gathering space. I know, I know, do we ever take a break? The answer is not often. Our new indoor meeting space (slated to be completed Spring 2025) will be a place to gather, learn, create, and build community during all seasons! It will also allow us to start hosting more regular group and private lessons, and expand our fiber arts equipment offerings (think more spinning wheels on display, more spinning fibers, some raw fleece options, etc.).
So what do you want to see with this indoor meeting space? More in-person KAL gathering? Bringing back our monthly Saturday Spin-ins (plus extra events during Tour de Fleece)? Monthly Open Studio evenings? The opportunities are honestly endless, and we cannot wait to see how this all unfolds.
So how else is the Flying Fibers crew celebrating the Wolf Moon?
• Jeri: growing her creativity through knitting! Jeri has been knitting fun and complex hats and her first steeked project like crazy this year. She is excited to keep practicing new stitches and maybe design some of her own this year.
• Irina: after finishing her Master’s program in December 2024, Irina is full throttle to grow the shop utilizing the skills learnt in her grad program. She is excited to get more knitting time back (instead of papers and projects), and is so ready to start teaching again in 2025.
• Ksenia: Sennie is ready to grow her chicken coop and prepare it for springtime with an improved foraging space for her hens. (Okay. Maybe this is one of Irina’s growth goals, too!)
