Say hello to Forge

What do you get when you bring together a traceable American-made yarn company and a wool business specializing in dyeing breed specific wool and preserving rare breed sheep? The answer is a perfect collaboration between Flying Fibers and Brooklyn Tweed!

Earlier this year, we got our hands on some scrumptious undyed Targhee-Columbia fingering weight yarn (woolen spun and 2-ply) from our friends at Brooklyn Tweed HQ. We knew instantly that this yarn base would be our special surprise for our 15th brick-and-mortar shop anniversary. We used BT’s amazing Loft yarn base and created five colors inspired by scenes from our farm, where we raise our 35 rare breed sheep and farm our 400+ lavender plants next to our wool and gift shop.

Forge offers the best of both worlds: soft, lightweight, breed-specific yarn with Jeri’s keen eye for color beautifully kettle-dyed onto it for soft undulations of value throughout each skein.

Each skein is 274 yards and 50g and will knit beautifully by itself, or pair nicely with Brooklyn Tweed Loft for fun colorwork projects.

Let me introduce the colors of this gorgeous limited batch yarn to you.

Wineberry: A charming deep pink, a reminder of our sweet summer treats that line the fences at the farm and are a great little snack during a long day of pasture work.

Nankin: A yellow-orange pop that emulates the plumage of our rare breed Nankin hens that free-range around the farm.

Pasture Pine: Reminiscent of the line of pine trees along the back side of the farm.

Susqueview: The beautiful Susquehanna River is less than 3 miles from our shop, and you can see it from the top of the hill of Forge Hill Road!

Lavender: A nod to our summertime farming, where we tend over 400 lavender plants to bring beautiful gifts and goods to our non-crafting customers.

Forge Colors (L to R): Wineberry, Nankin, Pasture Pine, Susqueview, Lavender

Our inventory will be updated for a 10:00 AM release, we can’t wait to see what you create with it!

A beautiful fingering weight yarn from our friends at Brooklyn Tweed, woolen spun 2-ply American-grown Targhee-Columbia Wool (you may recognize it as their Loft base!). Sent to the farm and lovingly hand-dyed by Jeri, focused on bringing the colors of the farm to life on an all-American wool. These five colors stand out by themselves but also complement the palette of Loft that Brooklyn Tweed offers. Handle gently while knitting, then wet block to see Forge bloom into full beauty.
